Keep on beginning and failing

"Keep on beginning and failing. Each time you fail, start all over again, and you will grow stronger until you have accomplished a purpose, not the one you began with, but one you'll be glad to remember" -Annie Sullivan

The Swan

Remember the story of the Ugly Duckling who wanted to be a swan and not a duck. The ugly duckling wanted so badly to be something it could never be. A swan cannot be a duck, but it is beautiful just as it is, more even than a duck.

When we lose our jobs, and we can no longer work at that company, we often feel a great loss. This loss has been equated with the feelings we have when we lose a loved one. We mourn and must take the time to grieve the loss of the attachment we had to the job we held.

Feelings of denial, disbelief, anger, inner self-criticism and withdrawal are also feelings that are attached to job loss. Honor those feelings. They are real and very normal for all that you have been through. But this is also time to stay hopeful because reflection and acceptance are also part of this process.

As you approach each stage, think of yourself as starting fresh. Your life is new. Think of yourself as having more time to explore new opportunities and take on new challenges. Spend some time thinking about starting that new business that you have always had a passion to start or transferring your skills to a field that has intrigued you for years.Take some courses to refresh your skills or start volunteering for that organization that has always been on the back of your mind.

Seize this new life as the swan that you are. Discover and explore the opportunities that await you. ~ka

In Playing Small

"There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than what you are capable of living"   ~Nelson Mandela.
