Life Doesn't Get Easier, You Just Get Stronger.

Each time we complete a goal or face a challenge, our strength grows within us.

"For strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through challenges and decide not to surrender, (but face them) that is strength".

Strength builds endurance, confidence, character and the courage to face the next challenge when it comes. Seeking wisdom, inspiration, opportunity, and positivity throughout the many challenges that life brings, has strengthened us to become who we are today.

"I like myself " - that feeling and phrase is one of the rewards that are earned for taking each day as it comes. Working with adversity, seeing opportunities, establishing boundaries and being strengthened by the many lessons that await us within each of our tomorrows grows us to new heights.

You Are What You Think

The Blind Side - Move Scene

It's Over

The pride of achievement, a drive within to be the best, that pat on the back, setting and reaching a tough goal, being part of a team, sharing in the company's wins and losses - and with one PINK SLIP - It's over.

 Or Is It?

When you've cashed your last paycheck and looked into the eyes of your family that look to you for  financial support, strength, and stability- Is it over?

When you attend an event and someone asks "What do you do"?  When you wake up in the morning and feel a sense of loss- Is it over?

Even When It's Over, It's Not Really Over

The need for job satisfaction, reward, stability, strength, empowerment, collaboration, achievement, competition, growth are still alive and waiting to be satisfied. Those needs, and our identity gained from work doesn't just disappear when our career transition begins – because even when it’s over, it’s not really over!

There are mental attachments that come with job loss. These attachments can sometimes become obstacles for us to begin again.

The 'Everything's Great' Smile

And at some point, the emptiness sets in. It may set in sooner than we think, but from the minute that it does, a mental instant replay and the beginning of berating what we did and didn’t do sets in.

Behind the everything's great smile and the I'm fine thank you and you response, deep inside, nothing feels like it will ever go back to normal.

Relationships are affected…
Finances suffer…
Health issues surface...

Across history, multitudes of us have been there. But each of us must then face the big question, with an even bigger answer-

Where Do I Go From Here

The feelings that "unemployment" brings, vary with all of us, but it is often described as one hell of a roller coaster ride with all of the ups and downs it brings to our daily lives.. Some days are rough - especially the early ones - often bringing on a feeling like the wind was just knocked out of you, other days bring on different challenges and feelings, some easier to handle than others.

You Are What You Think

And the feelings come: feelings of isolation, feelings of failure, feelings of having nothing to offer.

To counter this very normal, but also, negative self-talk, ask your family, friends, and of course, yourself to write down 25 positive words that describe you professionally and personally.

Examples of positive words:  active, personable, driven, funny, independent, musical, tactful, authoritative, content, attentive, nurturing, entrepreneurial, welcoming, happy, take charge, motivational, mechanical, athletic, adaptable, sensitive, flexible, loving, strong, wise, fast, accurate, balanced, thoughtful, reserved, outgoing, artistic, intense, amusing, engaging, analytical, studious, spontaneous, proactive, decisive, creative, persuasive, methodical, logical, and more.

Once you gather your own list of words, reflect on them daily, adding to them when new words come to mind.

Moving Forward

For it is the power of positivity, in thought and in action, that can lead us to move forward and affect our career transition in a positive way.
